Today things are going my way.... I have been in Nashville for one day and I have bought a cute little bicycle, found a job, and flirted with more than a handful of hipsters, old black men, and cowboys....
ah.... and the Nashville Film Festival starts in two days, and I cannot wait to kidnap my old professor who has a film showing and seduce him. Yummers!
Let's run away together, you and me? Huh? Huh? |

Three weeks in St. Louis/Kansas City were an adventure. Despite ups and downs, we were successful in helping to get the Missouri minimum wage raised and in passing an amendment allowing stem cell research. Then Susan came down to visit! Hurray.
Two and a half weeks of working 15 hour days, drinking too much and smoking like a chimney has left me with one thing on my mind: MAKING COOKIES! So I did. Here are pictures:

Dear David Sedaris,
Thank you for coming to Omaha tonight and for being so damn funny.
Love, Ariana
PS - I am leaving tomorrow morning at 4-fucking-AM to go to Missouri, but what should be a one hour flight, will become a 7 HOUR FLIGHT that will take me to Minnesota, then GEORGIA before I get to fucking Missouri, which I could drive to in a few hours. GUH. dumb |

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I have found my purpose!
Also, today I wore a SWEAT SUIT... ALL DAY... and I am not ashamed. It was the best thing I have ever done. I will do it again v. soon.
Also, listen, if you didn't respond the first time around about your mailing address and my homemade postcards, then you are missing out and may as well give in and give me your address so you can enjoy some mail. |

Grrr... anxiety! Please stop it! I need to start sleeping without waking up every few hours in a panic about work.
Meanwhile, the Pride, Not Violence rally/poetry slam/concert that I am planning is going to ROCK! Thank you all of North Omaha for wanting to get involved in an awesome event.
And Mr. Credit Card? You really need to keep yourself in my wallet or we could be in trouble.
Also, goodbye fake nails. You were... scary. But entertaining while you lasted. Oh, and painful to get off.
P.S. - Dear Winter, I know you're coming. And you make me want to fall in love. Maybe so that I have someone to snuggle with and keep me warm. I think that is where I have erred before. Doggies are just as good at snuggling and do not ruin you. |

I want to buy a new digital camera. What do I do?! Do I go for the Canon Powershot A530 with 5 megapixels that is on sale?! Or do I get the Sony cybershot s500 that would cost a bit more and would not take my SD memory cards but that is cuter and smaller!?
On that note:
AHHH
And really, is it selfish to want someone to make you a mix cd? |

Sometimes a two person Council Bluffs bar crawl is all you could ask for. Especially when you run into your high school teachers at the bar.
Here is your moment of zen from my weekend:

So, as it turns out, after Gum Family Reunion #1, I love the Gum family, even if they do support the war in Iraq and love America! Who knew? I'm just going to add that the Gum Family Dance Off should have been won by me because of my sexy hips and my original dance move entitled "The Nintendo." However, due to "feel good" attitudes, a so called "everyone" was the winner. Bullshit!
PS- I have a barky named Enfys living with me again! yay! |

So, okay, yeah, I admit it. I'm not sure if this job is for me. Yeah, sometimes I feel like I am selling people hope and that the Omaha police will not stop being assholes. And yeah, I was offered a job in Iowa City making videos about mental health but turned it down to stay in Omaha, aka Lame-aha, to make enemies because people don't like it when you "rock the boat" here, aka acknowledge that there is a lot of poverty and problems and police corruption. But, you know what else I admit? Sometimes I love this job. Like when I get paid to start rallies, and get people pissed off, and spread rumors about the silly police, and make t-shirts that say cute things about making change, and listen to crackheads tell me made up stories.
And it's okay that I don't know if I'm doing the right thing or fighting for the right cause or staying in a place that I don't particularly like. Because this is not permanent.
I guess you could say the pencil is my favorite of all inventions. Each time I twirl it around from tip to end I am reminded that nothing is permanent. This feeling is not permanent Today is not permanent This silly routine is not permanent.
I am reassured knowing, when I fuck this up I have tomorrow to find something new. To find somewhere else that will look different, even if inevitably it will be the same.
Sneak away to someone else who will Distract me from everyday. Sneak away into someone who I am not But can pretend to be.
But I must not forget that after a while, That moment will exist when the rubber is rubbed raw when the metal scapes the page and no more changes can be made When I must live with what I have and enjoy it. But for now, the rubber is thick and ready to rub. |

Did YOU know that the Homey Inn in Omaha has Champagne on tap? Dry and sweet? Sometimes you have to celebrate.
Also -
You all need to learn about the working family political party and fusion voting (http://www.workingfamiliesparty.org/fusion.html) and spread the word so eventually we can get them on the ballots in the midwest. Basically, it allows for you to vote third party but still vote for a candidate who actually has a chance of winning (Dem or Repub) . The working family party ONLY chooses a candidate when they have a history that aligns with our platforms (which are basically workers rights, healthcare for all people, good schools for everyone, environmental responsibility). |

dear hoodlums at 35th & hawthorne,
remember that time that you broke into my car by smashing my window and then you stole nothing because there was nothing in the car to steal? just a word to the wise, check inside the car for something more than a humane society umbrella and a crushed red bull can next time.
oh and also, next time don't do it to someone who is currently fighting for safer streets in the area, because it just makes me more motivated to kick your ass. plus, i'm holding a lemonade stand next week with all of my acorn members and inviting the police down to it for lemonade so we can make a plan to kick your ass!! so fuck off!
love, ariana |
